Memory Optimizer Content

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the read-and-write memory which holds the data of the programs currently running.

Each program that runs on the system consumes memory. Whenever memory falls short, the desired programs may not run, may open very slowly or may open but not with its full content. The system starts acting sluggish and system crashes, hang ups and sudden shutdowns are encountered quite often.

One solution is to add more physical RAM into the system’s memory. But the better solution is to manage the memory allocation in the best possible way in various programs.

Memory Optimizer, in WinZip System Utilities Suite , is a sophisticated, easy and efficient memory management utility. It helps the user to manage the existing limited memory space in a very resourceful manner.

It analyzes the current state of memory of the system and swaps new programs with the ones lying unused yet consuming memory. Memory Optimizer runs in the background to make the memory available to the new programs whenever needed.

The first screen gives you an overview of the current memory status through a graph showing the total volume of system memory, volume of available memory, volume of used memory, volume of System Cache and Peak Cache.

When you click on "Optimize Now" button, the process of memory optimization is initiated. Memory Optimizer frees the memory resources and makes maximum space available for the other programs to load and launch. Thus, the unresponsiveness of the application and programs currently running is countered and performance is boosted.

It is recommended that the files and applications currently in use should be closed to let the process of memory optimization take place.

Manual Settings

There are two setting options available for Memory Optimizer:

a) Program Settings

b) Auto Optimization

Three options are given under Program Settings.

  • Manual Optimization – This option lets you move the scroll bar to set the amount of memory to be freed during manual memory optimization. The optimization will be faster if less memory is specified, and vice versa. If a higher amount is specified, Memory Optimizer will take longer to free up that much memory space each time memory is being optimized.
  • Startup and Optimization – This option lets you load Memory Optimizer at Windows startup and also lets you clear the clipboard data to free more memory.
    • Load Memory Optimizer automatically on Windows Startup – When you check-mark this option, Memory Optimizer will load automatically each time during Windows startup. The application will be running in the background continuously, supervising the existing memory status and settings. It will accordingly optimize whenever and wherever necessary. It will be running in the minimized form in the system tray, and can be maximized by double-clicking it.
    • Free more memory by clearing the clipboard data (not recommended) – When this option is checked, Memory Optimizer clears the clipboard data during the optimization process. This option is not recommended and should remain unchecked during memory optimization. (Clearing data from the clipboard can lead to loss of critical data.)
  • Memory Graph Update Speed - This option lets you set the memory update speed for the Memory graph displayed in the Welcome screen. There are four levels of speed Fast, Medium, Normal and Slow, out of which only one can be chosen.

Once the settings are reset as per your needs and preferences, you may click on the "Save settings" button to apply all the changes done.

Auto Optimization

Three options are displayed under Auto Optimization Settings.

  • Enable Auto Optimization – This option will help you enable and disable auto optimization. If this option is checked, Memory Optimizer will automatically start optimizing memory when the free space available falls below a specified level. This will happen in the background and will not require any user interference.
  • Automatic Memory Optimization – This option helps to set a certain volume of free memory space below which Memory Optimizer auto-start memory optimization.
    • Automatically Optimize when free memory falls below – While using any computer in daily life, we don’t realize that its memory space is being increasingly used up. Eventually, all free memory is completely exhausted, and further work becomes tedious and impossible. Memory Optimizer allows to set a certain volume of free memory space under this section so that memory optimization takes place automatically when available memory free space comes below that specified level.
    • Try to free additional – You may also instruct Memory Optimizer to try to free up additional memory space when memory is being optimized. You may specify the volume under this section.
  • Processor Usage Protection - Under Processor Usage Protection is the Use Intelligence Optimization option which is recommended. Enabling this option will monitor the processor load (CPU). If any currently running application is putting a huge load on the processor, the Memory Optimizer will automatically halt memory optimization to avoid slowing down the system.

Once the settings are reset based on preference, you may click on the "Save settings" button to apply all the changes done.

When you minimize the application window, it still executes its job from the system tray. It continuously supervises and periodically optimizes so that the memory resources never fall short while launching important programs.

When you right click on the system tray icon, the context menu shows four options. The option “Show Main Window” helps to restore the application to the maximized state and “Optimize Now” starts the optimization process. Option “Help” will open the help file and “Exit” option will close the application and remove it from the system tray as well.
